Every week, we answer a common question about marketing or an aspect of business. In one of our contests, someone simply sent us the phrase “funny marketing moments” when we asked “what confuses you about marketing?” They misunderstood the question, but we’ll run with it!
This week, we’re going to shake it up a bit. Times are tough and scary right now and we could all use a laugh.
This week, we are going to be sharing seven of our favorite funny marketing moments and fails.
1. IHOP’s IHOb campaign
This tremendously successful marketing campaign is also one of the funniest marketing stunts in the last few years. If you don’t remember, not too long ago, IHOP pretended to change its name to IHOb to promote the fact that they were selling burgers. It was all a publicity stunt, but they sold FOUR TIMES as many burgers after that campaign.
2. Starbucks van sliding doors fail
I’m a Dunkin man myself, but this is a little harsh.
3. Fire your billboard designer
I’ve got a feeling that this is a road hazard.
4. Bad billboard placement
Or maybe this is actually great billboard placement.
